Goals and Consequences

Consequences to me:
1)  As a result of this course, I was forced to explore more about other countries state of child care and to learn that many of the same issues we have here are also being felt around the world.
2)  I  found that other countries have a lot to teach us.  The countries that are excelling (Finland) are places I want to study to see if I can embed their practices into my own and begin the change one classroom or one child at a time.
3) I am feeling more pressure to be more aware of my own bias's, I have always been a reflective thinker but only on my own practices from my perspective.  I am going to seek out other perspectives in my reflection to make my reflections more powerful.

Goal for EC Field:

My goal is that the early childhood workforce was getting paid based on the importance of their work, I don't think that will happen, however, until we stand up together along with parents and families to tell the policy makers that quality in early care and education is going to be predictive of our society 20 years from we can either  spend money on the front end and give children the best start possible or we will be forced to spend it on the back end by paying for their support either because of higher incarceration rates or a less productive workforce.  There will be growing pains but as my husband always says, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger".  Together we can make it happen!

Thanks to all my classmates and Dr. Horton.

  1. I do think If I had the chance to travel abroad those countries that are advanced and excelling in. Education I would love to go there and learn what their practices are that works.

Government must invest in the educational system and programs offered to build higher quality program, educate families, and pay teachers. This will build trust in our system, produce longevity in teachers and move to improve the decline in.poverty. drop out, workforce numbers and more

  3. Hi Brenda, I agree!! teachers do not get paid as much as they should at all. as I stated to one of my colleagues once before, just as a doctor is trained to save lives and gets paid accurately for it, teachers saves lives as well. to be an instructor that molds a child, saves them from negative activities and works to keep them on the right track by educating them enough to be successful in the future, I think is a life saver as well, otherwise, who knows where the child could end up!! thanks for sharing such a wonderful post, glad to have had you as a colleague. Good luck in your next course.

  4. Each and every child deserves a quality education and teachers do deserve a higher income. The children that are being taught to become successful people and succeed make more money than the person that taught them to become what they are. Something does not seem right there. I want to wish you the best of luck in all you do!

  6. Brenda,

I think it is excellent idea to learn from another country whom is having success in early childhood education. Also I think it is great that you are recognizing your own bias. I have been doing the same. We don't want them to become barriers in forming relationships with children and their families.

  7. I to hope that EC educators receive an improvement in pay. Any type of educator deserves more. I feel that educators should be paid as much as doctors and lawyers. I know this is a long shot, but some individuals really do not realize how important an educators role is!! Great Post!
